The House of Upcycling, the leading authority in professional upcycling for interiors

I have been accepted into The House of Upcycling, the first outside the UK.

The House of Upcycling is the UK and Ireland's leading authority on professional upcycling for interiors. Founded in 2014 and a partner of the British Institute of Interior Design (BIID).

The House of Upcycling is a concept that applies the idea of upcycling to the world of interior and decoration design. This can be anything from repurposing an old ladder as a bookcase to transforming a vintage suitcase into a coffee table. The possibilities are endless and the results can be truly stunning.

As a member of the House of Up you must upcycle to a high standard and create beautiful and original designs, whether it is art, lighting, home accessories or furniture.

The world of interior design is changing: style in collaboration with sustainability is no longer a utopia or a privilege of the elite, it is something we all have to take into account. The members of The House of Upcycling have made an art of turning what people throw away into what they want. They work in a unique, highly creative and professional way, creating 'statement pieces', the heirlooms of the future!

Founded in 2014 by eco interiors educator, designer Chris Billinghurst, the organisation has gone from strength to strength and today continues to advocate the benefits of buying and commissioning designer upcycled products, and offers people the opportunity to learn how to upcycle. Each upcycle moves us towards a more eco-friendly lifestyle as part of a lower impact existence, with products taking on a unique and individual aesthetic.

With a broad portfolio of industry partners including UK and European universities, institutes and design schools, sustainability leaders and interior designers, The House of Upcycling also participates in many national and local events, with a focus on the environmental, ethical, economic and aesthetic values of the craft and a strong focus on raising the standards and status of professional upcycling. But at its core, The House of Upcycling has always been about supporting and promoting the work of its member craftspeople.
